The game of professional golf has transformed over the years. Many spectators, journalists, and pros themselves state that golf is now a game of power. Driving distance is integral to winning on Tour, club manufacturers gear much of their advertising around the “power game”, and it is a wish of most every amateur.

Improved distance off the tee or with any club on the course requires increased clubhead speed. Clubhead speed is a product of power in your golf swing. Increasing the power in your golf swing will improve your clubhead speed. Equaling more distance on every shot you desire.

The question to ask is how do you increase the power in your golf swing? Three components exist directly affecting the power in your golf swing:

1) Efficiency of Your Golf Swing Mechanics

2) Power Generating Capacities of Your Body

3) Equipment

Review of the list indicates three integral components exist that directly affecting your clubhead speed. First and foremost are your golf swing mechanics. Golf swing mechanics can either be efficient or inefficient.

Efficient golf swing mechanics allow for you to input the greatest amount of power developed within your golf swing into the club and golf ball.

Inefficient golf swing mechanics result in the exact opposite. Inefficient swing mechanics create what is described as “energy leaks” within your golf swing. “Energy leaks” cause less power to be translated to the club and golf ball. This is because large amounts of energy are lost during the mechanics of the swing.

Again, to improve your clubhead speed and the power outputs within your golf swing. It is necessary to develop efficient golf swing mechanics.

Secondly, equipment does play a role in your clubhead speed. The technological advances in both club and golf balls have an effect. The key to increasing your power outputs in relation to equipment is to get the correct club and ball for your swing.

Matching up your swing and swing speed with the correct equipment will allow you to get the most clubhead speed out of your swing. For example, if your average swing speed is 95 and you are using extra stiff shafts. This could easily result in a loss of clubhead speed in your swing.

It is strongly recommended you get fitted for your equipment. Getting fitted matches up the correct equipment with your swing. Allowing you to get the most “bang for your buck” in terms of your golf swing.

Finally, we come to the topic of this article and that is your body. Your body has a direct affect on clubhead speed. It is your body swinging the club, and generating power within the mechanics of the golf swing.

That being said, developing power within your golf swing is directly related to the ability of your body to generate power. Often times this is the forgotten component by many amateurs in relation to developing power.

In order to increase the power outputs in your golf swing it is necessary to implement golf fitness exercises into your training program.

Golf fitness exercises increase the ability of your body to generate power within the golf swing. Resulting in increased clubhead speed.

What is the

best golf fitness exercise to increase power in your golf swing?

Before answering that question we must look at the mechanics of the golf swing. The golf swing is both a linear and rotational movement.

Composed of finite biomechanical movements performed in a specific order. In addition to performing the biomechanics of the golf swing in a specific order, timing each movement is also required.

In order to perform the mechanics of the golf swing correctly it is necessary for the body to have certain levels of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power built within the body.

If one does not have these physical parameters developed within the body to a certain level. The ability to perform the mechanics of the golf swing efficiently, and generate power will be compromised.

The answer to the question of the best exercise for improving the power in your golf swing is not one specific exercise.

Improving power in your golf swing requires a “basket or exercises” including flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power training.

A combination of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power exercises are the key to enhancing the power in your golf game.

To summarize, improving the power in your golf swing consist of;

1) Efficient golf swing mechanics, 2) Proper equipment, 3) Golf fitness training.

The combination of these three components result in increased clubhead speed in your golf swing.

Not one single golf fitness exercise can improve the power outputs in your golf swing. It is rather a combination of flexibility, balance, strength, endurance, and power training exercises that enhance clubhead speed.

Implement a comprehensive a golf fitness program into your schedule will undoubtedly increase your clubhead speed, driving distance, and overall performance on and off the course.

It’s easy to start a lifestyle of fitness. What’s difficult is how to be consistent with it. Most people would spend money to enroll in gym memberships or buy those fitness equipment only to quit as soon as they start. Either they are too busy that they could no longer find time to keep it going or they quickly lose their interest due to lack of motivation.

In order to stay motivated, try to set some fitness goals and write them on paper. Putting them down on paper gives them more weight than just saying things to yourself. be specific and realistic with your goals. Instead of telling yourself that “I will start working out in a gym next week and build some muscles,” try writing it down in paper as “I will start working out in a gym next week, 3 times a week, Monday…Wednesday…and Friday, after work.” Setting unrealistic goals may lead to disappointment and frustration. Exercise can give you a healthier body and add a certain glow, but it won’t catch you a lover or turn you into a celebrity or supermodel.

Setting aside a specific regular time for your fitness regimen is important to keep your enthusiasm going. The number one reason why most people, especially women, don’t exercise is because they’re too busy doing things for other people: their spouse, their kids, their boss. Make a plan or schedule for all the little stumbling blocks that usually get in the way and incorporate your time for exercise into your daily routine. Be sure to follow it and stick to it. Biking to work or taking a walk to do errands make a great deal in adding physical activity to your lifestyle.

Treat exercise as a social event by joining a group or being with a workout buddy. Camaraderie helps in keeping the spirits up. Make family time a lot of fun by playing catch or kick with your kids, or swimming together in a lake or pool.

Routine variations help, such as working on several activities during the week will help develop different sets of muscles and skills. While athletes do this for cross-training, one doesn’t have to be in training to enjoy the benefits of mixing different sports, such as running, biking, and swimming.

When fatigue interferes with your desire to workout, something may be wrong with your eating habits. Eating small meals frequently throughout the day is much better than skipping a meal, say lunch, and then eat a big dinner. Starving yourself affects your brain and leads to fatigue. However, eating too much at once slows your metabolism and makes you feel sloppy. On the other hand, eating frequently keeps your blood sugar level constant and maintains your energy level up. High-protein and high-fiber foods such as nuts and fruit are a good snack to give yourself a boost.

Treat yourself with rewards whenever you complete a cycle of your schedule, say every month, buy yourself something to encourage you for your effort. Some experts suggest putting a small amount of money in a jar every time you work out. At the end of the year, use your collected cash to buy something just for you.

Being consistent helps you become motivated. And the more you exercise, the easier it gets. Building more strength helps muscles develop more mitochondria, the cell parts that turn sugar into energy. The more mitochondria you have, the harder you can exert yourself. You also increase the number of capillaries which helps the oxygen flow to your muscles to provide more energy.

As you continue being faithful with your schedule and goals, the changes may not be visible at once. Most of these bodily changes are invisible but they are happening and are important in laying the groundwork for a strong, healthy physique. As the cliché goes, “no pain, no gain.” Stick to it and you will soon realize that everything will fall into its proper places.

If you’re a man who likes to exercise vigorously, do you need extra protein? What about the type and timing of the protein you eat—does that matter? Here are some answers.

The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein for adults is 0.8 grams of protein a day for each kilogram (2.2 pounds) of body weight. That’s 64 grams of protein for a 175-pound man, for example. To put that in perspective, an ounce of chicken or peanuts or cup of milk has about 8 grams of protein.

If you exercise regularly you may need a little more protein than the RDA, but most men (and women) already get more than that; many get twice the RDA without trying. Even weightlifters and endurance athletes generally get enough protein, simply because their higher-calorie diets supply it. Athletes on low-calorie diets and people who eat no animal foods may need to make more of an effort, though.

Some studies suggest that the timing of your protein might make a difference, however. While eating carbohydrates immediately after intense exercise replenishes glycogen (the storage form of glucose, used as fuel during exercise), adding a little protein to the mix seems to benefit muscle as well.

A study in the Journal of Physiology a few years ago, for example, found that older men who consumed protein right after resistance training developed more muscle after 12 weeks, compared to men who had the protein two hours after exercising. And a more recent study at McMaster University in Canada found the proteins in skim milk (casein and whey) particularly effective in stimulating muscle growth after resistance training in young men—more so than soy milk protein. Other studies show that post-exercise protein reduces muscle damage. Whether this makes much difference in athletic performance is debatable, but it can’t hurt to have a cup of skim milk or yogurt after a workout.

Keep in mind: Consuming more protein than your body needs does not build more muscle. Only exercise, specifically strength training, does.

The average American diet consists of processed fast foods and starchy things like French fries, pasta, and cheeseburgers. No wonder we are the most overweight country in the world and getting bigger by the minute. Adult and childhood obesity are rampant in the U.S. and account for more health problems than all other factors combined. Obesity causes or is linked directly to hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis, bone problems, and many other ailments. We need to get off our collective rear ends and start working on fitness and weight loss as parts of our daily lives, not just when we get too heavy to fit into our jeans.

It is not as difficult as it first seems to achieve total fitness and weight loss if you approach it from a holistic point of view. You need to see the big picture and part of that is to examine how being overweight affects our daily lives. Think about it, what could you accomplish if you were at your ideal weight today? How would you life change if you could fit into that size four dress and feel confident every time you went out for a job interview or to meet with clients? If you were not so heavy would your knees, hips and back hurt so much after every workout or could you be pain free and consequently run more miles (or even one) and lose weight even faster? Staying fit or getting in shape is not easy and no one is claiming to have a panacea but you can definitely get a kick start if you follow some easy suggestions.

The first thing you need to do is to write down everything that you eat all day. Fitness and weight loss experts agree that documenting your daily caloric intake is vital to making your plan work. How can you know what to avoid if you don’t know what you are putting into your mouth? Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers both emphasize this part of their program and give you little food diaries where you write down everything you eat during the day and also what kind of exercise you did that day. You can even write down your daily weight but I don’t particularly recommend that part of it.

Many experts agree that looking at the scale every day can lead you to sabotage your fitness and weight loss goals. This is due to the fact that most weight loss occurs several days after one exercises and diets and not on the same day. If you weigh yourself after you work out you are really only seeing water weight loss and not fat weight loss. If you exercise several days in a row you will not see less water weight loss or sometimes none at all. This is discouraging and even more discouraging is when you diet and exercise and you still seem to gain a pound or two. That is the main reason to put away your scale for at least one week while you begin your fitness and weight loss program. This is the way that Jenny Craig does it and they weigh you on their accurate scales once a week when you come in for your weekly consultation and to buy the week’s worth of food.

Although Jenny Craig seems expensive and food costs can exceed $100 per week per person, it really saves you money. If you count up how much food you buy in an average week of going to the supermarket and eating out at restaurants you will find that you are actually spending a lot more on your own. Take the plunge. Sign up with Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers and begin that fitness and weight loss plan you have been meaning to start. You will thank yourself once you get to that ideal weight and everyone is giving you complimentary remarks.

It is normal for your children to run a fever, cough, or runny nose with a cold once in a while. But, is there anything you can do to lessen the chances for infection?

Try This… Boost your kids' immune system by practicing these common sense habits:

1. Breastfeeding

There's no doubt that breast milk provides the best and most complete nutrition for babies. The colostrum, which immediately follows birth, is known to have antibodies that can protect babies from many illnesses, such as diarrhea and meningitis.

2. Consuming Fruits and Veggies

Fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamins and minerals, as well as other nutrients to boost your kids' health. Consuming them daily will prevent your loved ones from infection.

3.Teaching Proper Hygiene as a Way of Life

Washing their hands with soap is a very good start. Always wash before having meals, after using bathroom, playing, and handling their pets.

4. Insuring Enough Sleep

Simple habits, right? Yet you probably don't recognize how important they are for your kids' fitness. Talk about this with your spouse and both of you can start a new beginning with healthier kids and family.

It's important to realize that antibiotic-resistant disease like MRSA is a man-made problem, created by the excessive use of antibiotics. Medical overuse of antibiotics is one aspect, but the greatest, and most hidden, factor is the excessive use of antibiotics in food production.

Clearly, agricultural antibiotic use is the smoking gun in the battle against antibiotic-resistant superbugs.

(That, plus the fact that they are far superior to farm-raised meats in terms of nutritional content, which I'll discuss below).

Studies have shown that when you reduce the use of antibiotics in meat production, human disease caused by antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria is significantly reduced as well.

For example, once Australia banned the use of fluoroquinolones in all food animals, only two percent of Australian patients tested positive for the drug resistant strain of Campylobacter jejuni (a leading bacterial cause of food-borne illness that has exhibited drug-resistant strains), whereas the prevalence of drug resistance can be as high as 29 percent in countries that allow the use of fluoroquinolone.

And, according to a 2006 study published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, bacteria from conventional chicken, and people who ate the chicken, became resistant to Synercid (a strong antibiotic used to treat antibiotic-resistant bacteria) more often than the bacteria found in antibiotic-free chicken, or in vegetarians.

In fact, the study found it was rare to find drug-resistant bacteria among antibiotic-free chicken, while the majority of bacterial isolates from conventional poultry were resistant.

Still, the US meat industry is extremely resistant to the idea of getting rid of these drugs, and I don't think we'll see any major change in this area until or unless laws are enacted to curtail its use.

Until then, it's up to you to make up your own mind about what you want to buy…

These microbes compete for nutrients from the food you eat. Usually, the strength in numbers that beneficial bacteria enjoy both keeps the ever-present yeasts in check and causes them to produce nutrients such as the B vitamins.

However, every time you swallow antibiotics, you kill these beneficial bacteria within your intestines. When you do so, you upset the delicate balance of your intestinal terrain. Yeasts grow unchecked into large colonies and take over, in a condition called dysbiosis.

Yeasts are opportunistic organisms. This means that, as your intestinal bacteria die, yeasts thrive, especially when their dietary needs are met.

So, it should come as no surprise that weight gain counts as one of the telltale signs of antibiotic damage and subsequent yeast overgrowth.

Weight has a way of consuming lives, and those that want to get rid of extra pounds obsess about it a lot. Though there are always health benefits to losing even a little weight, those that have a lot around the middle have different health risks and should take extra care in trying to whittle the extra away. Belly weight gain can be especially dangerous, especially to women.

If you have what is called an apple shape rather than a pear shape, you have had excess belly weight gain. Some women gain in different places at different rates, but if relatives have gained around the middle more than in any other area, you are prone to do the same. Though no amount of excess weight is a good idea, those with an apple shape are the ones that have the highest risks to their health if they do not take some of that weight off. Rates of heart attack and diabetes appear to be higher for apple shaped women in comparison to pear shaped.

Don't fall for the products that claim they are going to help you get rid of belly weight gain. These cannot work in the way that they claim, though they can be helpful. There is no way that you can target train a single area of the body so that you can slim down in that area first or only in that area. When it comes to dieting to get rid of belly weight gain, you have to diet for your entire body. Each body builds and gets rid of fat in its own way, so think of losing weight overall to get rid of what is on your mid-section.

Exercises that target the middle of your body are not going to work to get rid of fat. These exercises will tone that area by building up those muscles, but they cannot rid you of the excess fat cells in the area. Only cardio activity and eating healthy unprocessed foods can do that. You can definitely use toning exercises for that area, but an overall exercise program is going to be more beneficial in the long run because it helps the whole body and aids in weight loss. Do both targeted exercises for your belly and overall exercise for best results.

You may never be able to get rid of all of your belly weight gain. Having babies can often leave the slimmest women with five pounds they simply can’t shake. Your metabolism, age, and your genetic disposition for hanging on to excess weight all play a role in how you will be in the future. However, lose as much as you can. Even losing as much as ten pounds can lower your risks for diabetes, stroke, and heart disease or attack. You may not fit into a size two, but any small loss is of benefit to you and your overall health.

Avika and Anika Sharma were given the vaccinations at a private nursing home by Dr. Satyaveer Singh. Within about 15 minutes, both little girls were dead. Dr. Singh disappeared shortly after the incident, which is under investigation. According to Indian MSN News: "The Indian Medical Association's local president Dr Santosh Aggrawal, who visited the hospital after the incident, confirmed that the health of the twins deteriorated after being administered the vaccine. "The doctor had a fresh supply of the vaccine. Still there could be something wrong with the batch of vaccines. Similar deaths have been reported from Kanpur and Lucknow," he added." In related news, Australia is having vaccine problems of its own, as officials recently confirmed that the seasonal flu vaccine, Fluvax, caused convulsions in 99 children. The rate of seizures was 50 times higher than would ordinarily be expected with a vaccine. Sources: Indian MSN News September 17, 2010 Philosophers Stone September 18, 2010 IndianExpress.com September 17, 2010 NewScientist.com October 4, 2010

Many parents do not think twice about taking their children in for routine vaccinations, as they are an integral, and heavily pushed, part of the conventional medical system. But this decision turns out to be a life-or-death one for more children than you might think. Last month in India, 9-month-old twin girls died suddenly, just 15 minutes after receiving a measles vaccine. The family has received no explanation, and an official investigation into the incident is so far turning up little information. The doctor who administered the vaccines has disappeared, the clinic where they were performed has been shut down for the time being, and the Indian Medical Association's local president is at a loss. He did report, however, that although the doctor had a "fresh supply of the vaccine … there could be something wrong with the batch …" Reportedly, similar deaths in two other regions in the country have also been reported. This news, shocking and tragic as it is, is not unheard of. This past August, four children also died in Indian villages during a routine immunization drive. Like the current case, the investigators had little to say by way of explanation, except to state, "This is a case of adverse event following immunization … This is not a new phenomenon …" Every Vaccine Carries a Risk of Injury and Death It is not a "new phenomenon" for children to die or become seriously ill after being vaccinated, because the risk is present every time a child receives a vaccine. Unfortunately, this fact is not shared with parents so they can make an educated and informed decision on whether or not to proceed. If you knew that death or permanent disability/injury was a possible side effect, you might think twice before agreeing to have your child vaccinated, especially for illnesses that kids typically easily recover from, like chicken pox, the flu, and rotavirus — or illnesses your newborn has virtually no risk of catching, like hepatitis B. As Barbara Loe Fisher, founder of the National Vaccine Information Center, recently stated: "The truth is, nobody knows how many vaccine victims there are in America, how many of the 1 in 6 learning disabled children; or the 1 in 9 with asthma; or the 1 in 100 who develop autism; or the 1 in 450 who become diabetic, can trace their chronic inflammation, disease and disability back to vaccine reactions that have been dismissed by public health officials and doctors for the past century as just "a coincidence."" A quick search of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) reveals nearly 1,000 U.S. deaths related to various vaccines. With over 70 vaccines included, VAERS is an excellent tool that can help you easily identify which vaccines are associated with the most side effects. It is important to know, though, that only a tiny fraction of the reactions are actually reported. Studies have estimated that less than 10 percent, to as little as ONE percent, of side effects are ever reported, so the true side effects, and deaths, are easily FAR higher than the reported statistics represent. This is information that you, as a parent or even when deciding on vaccines for yourself, need to be aware of. Australian Children Suffered Seizures After Flu Vaccine As we gear up for flu season in the United States, one glaring example of the side-effect risk of "routine" vaccinations can be taken from Australia. The Australian Department of Health and Aging has just confirmed that its main seasonal flu vaccine was "causally related" to fever and convulsions in 99 children in 2010. An analysis by Heath Kelly, head of epidemiology at the state infectious diseases laboratory in Melbourne, further revealed that gettingthe Fluvax vaccine was actually worse than getting the flu, as the vaccine caused two to three hospital admissions due to convulsions, for every hospital admission the flu prevented. This vaccine is very similar to the one being administered in the United States right now, with no warning to parents whatsoever! How Much Risk are You Willing to Take? This is the question you need to ask yourself when deciding on the very important decision of vaccination. Studies of parental attitudes toward vaccination have repeatedly demonstrated that parents still prefer their child dying from an actual disease than dying from side effects associated with vaccination. This is one reason why increasing numbers of parents are refusing vaccines. In 2008, 39 percent of parents refused or delayed vaccines for their children compared to just 22 percent in 2003. Among the top reasons for their decision:

27 percent said too many shots were recommended

26 percent questioned whether vaccines really worked

25 percent cited worries that vaccines might cause autism

24 percent worried about side effects

The media would have you believe that those who refuse vaccines are ignorant but when you examine the facts, mothers with college educations and higher incomes are actually LESS likely to vaccinate their children than those with less education. Studies have also shown that the higher the education and income bracket of the parents, the lower the acceptable risk becomes. For instance, in order to achieve a 90 percent acceptance rate (a typical target for recommended childhood vaccines), one study found that parents would accept no more than 1,794 cases of vaccine-related intussusception (a problem with the intestine in which one portion of the bowel slides into the next) caused by the rotavirus vaccine, per year. This incidence rate corresponds to 359 surgeries and 14 deaths, 11 of which could be related to the rotavirus vaccine. Does this sound like an acceptable risk to you? Because to me it is a shockingly high risk, especially when you consider that rotavirus is typically mild in most U.S. children, entirely treatable with fluids and rest, and the infection provides natural, longer lasting immunity that will protect your child. So that would be one risk I, personally, would NOT be willing to take. But even if the risk for some vaccines is low, what you may find when you examine the research carefully is that the benefit for many vaccines is virtually nonexistent, which then means there is a big question about whether to accept ANY risk. Earlier this year, for instance, more than 1,000 people came down with the mumps, and almost all of them had been vaccinated against this disease! So the MMR vaccine apparently does not always work as advertised, meaning you're taking a risk of a serious reaction occurring for nothing. These are the types of risk-benefit analyses you should perform with each and every vaccine your child is expected to take. Do not go in blindly, as your child's life is very much at stake. Did You Know Safety Studies Have Never Been Done? Federal public health officials recommend children should get a total of 69 doses of 16 vaccines from day of birth to age 18. You should know that this current "one-size-fits-all" vaccination schedule has never been proven safe. No studies have been done to examine if the benefits of this unprecedented number of vaccines outweigh the risks, so it is very much a large, uncontrolled experiment that your child is expected to take part in. What the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has done is assume that there is no difference in giving a child one vaccine than giving them five, 10 or 14 all at once. They have simply chosen to ignore the fact that giving multiple vaccines at one time is, in fact, very different from giving just one. They have also chosen to ignore the fact that this vaccine "prescription" is the same for every U.S. child, even though it's well known that all children are not the same biologically — and some children will not be able to survive the currently recommended vaccine schedule without suffering serious harm to their health. It's your child, so it's up to you to make an informed decision. For parents who are looking for the truth about vaccinations, you can continue your journey by searching this site and also visiting credible, reliable resources like the National Vaccine Information Centerfor more information. Related Links: Why Doesn’t the U.S. Ban a Vaccine that’s Killing Children Overseas? Was an Eight-Year-Old's Death Caused by His Flu Shot? You ARE Making a Difference!

and in movies like “300” where all of the Spartans look like they have been doing nothing but crunches and sit-ups for several years. This is not realistic if you are into middle age no matter what the television commercials tell you, those ab workouts and crazy machines will not produce a six pack if you now have a tubby tummy. In fact ab workouts when you already have a large stomach region will most likely make your tummy larger or appear larger. This is because by exercising that region you are actually building muscle underneath the fat layer and it will push your midsection out. This does not mean that you should not perform ab workouts, it just means that you need to know how to do them. You also need to combine your ab workouts with a consistent diet program and an aerobic exercise routine that will help you to lose weight overall. If you do not lose weight by modifying your diet and sweating with aerobic exercise then all of the ab workouts in the world will not reduce your gut. When you first start out doing ab workouts you need to be careful and not overdo them. Fitness experts suggest that you lie on the floor with your knees bent. Instead of performing the traditional sit-up which can be very damaging to your back and relies mostly on the hip flexors as opposed to the abdominal muscles, experts agree that you should do modified crunches. Put your hands behind your head and slowly raise your head about five inches, hold it there, then slowly go down again. Repeat this exercise for ten repetitions. You will immediately feel a tightness in your abdominal region and you may even cramp up if you have not done any ab exercises in a long time. If you do feel a cramp coming on do not move for a while and just lay on your back. Abdominal cramps can be very painful so you want to avoid these as much as possible. Another great ab routine is the leg lift from the bench position. Lie down flat on a bench and grab the back of the bench behind you. With the legs together and extended lift them together slowly as high as you can, then slowly bring them back down parallel to the bench or even a bit below if you can. Repeat this workout ten times. Be very careful when doing this exercise that you do not overdo it and hurt your back. If you have a bad back do not attempt this exercise. When you begin any of these ab workouts you should also try to moderate your intake of saturated fats, oils, sugar, starches and dairy. Stick to a more complete diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, as raw as possible to get the most nutrition. Your ab workouts will get a lot easier over time and you will see much better definition once you start cutting back on the calories.

They are easy to follow without time constraints and don’t require a complete lifestyle change. These three steps are: 1. Strength Training – Nowadays you do not have to live in a gym to put on functional muscle. Short High Intensity sessions performed once a week is all that is required to elevate the metabolism for total fat burning. 2. A Small Decrease in Daily Calories – Diets don’t work (everybody knows this by now) but by decreasing your daily calories by a small amount, the weight loss is body fat alone and not lean tissue and water that is associated with crash diets. Remember fat accumulates on the body over a long period of time so it must come off slowly. 3. More Incidental Activity – Instead of driving try walking, walk instead of taking elevators or escalators; take the stairs and so on. Just keep moving through out the day. Lets have a look at the Three Steps in more detail below: Strength Training Between the ages of 20 and 70 the average person loses one quarter of their muscle mass. Running, cycling or other aerobic sports will not prevent this loss. This is very disturbing because the muscles are the engines of the body and every pound of muscle burns 100 calories every day. By adding just 10 pounds of functional muscle to your body, you will burn off 60 pounds of fat over the next year. Providing you take in the same amount of calories it will keep burning those extra pounds year after year! The amount of fat the body can burn is directly related to the lean muscle your body has. If you don't perform weight training to maintain your muscle tissue, you will lose half a pound of the fat burning tissue per year after the age of 20 years. In simpler terms the more functional muscle you have on your body the more fat you will burn up. Small Decrease in Daily Calories For years now, we have been told to use dieting to rid the excess fat from our bodies. The trouble with this concept is that the low calorie restricted diet would throw the body into starvation mode, with the body holding onto the fat and using precious muscle tissue for energy. This would then lower the metabolism causing greater muscle loss and when the diet is broken the unwanted fat would not only return but actually increase because to the lowered metabolism. The way around this is to cut your daily calorie intake by a small amount of calories only. This will stop any starvation mechanisms from clicking in. You can do this by making up a seven day eating plan and writing down every thing you eat for the week, and then work out the calories you have eaten with a calorie counter. Divide this figure by seven and you have your daily calorie value. Decrease daily calorie value by a couple of hundred calories per day and no more. This will generate slow weight loss and the majority will be fat loss only. The daily calories should be consumed during the day with small frequent meals. The calories should come from a balanced diet (no fad diets please) with the required amount of micronutrients, vitamins and minerals. As well as containing the required amounts of fibre, fat, protein and carbohydrates. More Incidental Activity Fat is burned from the body when cells oxidize to release energy in the form of exercise. When the exercise is done slowly to moderately then the majority of energy is taken from the fat stores. The key to effective aerobic training that burns off maximum fat is long-term consistency not intensity. It doesn’t matter if you run a mile, jog a mile or walk a mile you will burn exactly the same amount of calories. The best exercise by far for the purpose of fat-loss is fast walking either indoors on the treadmill or outdoors. Other aerobic activities are the treadmill, bike, climber or any other training gear found in or out of the Gym. Start with 100 minutes of controlled incidental activity per week increasing this to 200 minutes a week or more. In all other activities try to move, move, move. Try parking the car further away from your destination so you can walk the extra distance, hide all your remote controls so you have to get up and change the channels manually. These all help burn those extra calories and body fat from your frame. By incorporating these three simple fat loss steps into your everyday life you will not have to change your lifestyle or be subject to time constraints.
